STUDENTS DISTROYED THE VALENTINE’S GIFT
Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) Mumbra demonstrated against the contemporary Valentine’s Day.
A grand protest was organized in front to M. S. College and Kalsekar Degree College Mumbra on 14 Feb, at 10.00 am to 12.30 pm to highlight the ill effects of celebration of valentine day and to convince the Students and youth not to celebrate.
“The celebration of Valentine’s Day is against our culture, its nothing but commercial exploitation of our emotions. We believe that such activities will erode moral and family values, so we should not waste our time, energy and money on celebrating Valentine ’s Day. ” Opined Hamidullah Shaikh (President, SIO Mumbra).
Many students of M. S. college and Kalsekar College Mumbra destroyed their gift and put into fire to support the awareness movement of SIO and these students also promised that they will not celebrate valentine day anymore.
Students Islamic Organisation of India is working since last 28 years to prepare students and youth for the benefits of society under “divine guidance”. It requests students and youth community to celebrate February 14, 2010 as Brotherhood day instead of Valentine’s Day. The Valentine’s Day is basically modern concept of showing emotions between girls and boys, which is actually a tool of satan to spread a immorality among them. This not only indulge our youth in destruction of values but also it promotes commercialization of emotions, wherein they will judge the so-called “love” using the amount their lover spend on them.
“Our intention is to peacefully oppose Valentine’s Day and not to do moral policing but to make the masses (Students) realize the ill effects of shaping this culture which say celebrating valentine’s day is expression of emotion with freedom and get some Space. We ask, ‘Freedom from what? What does ‘express yourself’ mean? What is the meaning of ‘space?’ we would have learnt that freedom meant, freedom from all restraint, all rules of decency, all that holds the fabric of moral, socially responsible society together. ” Minhaj Shaikh (Organizer of the protest) added.
“We are against this cultural invasion MNC’s Promoted culture of consumerism. The culture of consumption, The culture of self-indulgence. Capitalist Sponsored valentine day says that only ‘I’ matter and the rest can go to hell. ‘Family’ is a bad word because families epitomize responsibility. And responsibility is another bad word, Because Responsible people save. They don’t spend, They conserve, They don’t waste, They don’t follow fads and trends. Responsible people don’t support consumerism. It affects our family bonds and undermines India’s culture of respecting each other as sisters and brothers and Spending for other as charity. Love does not need a particular day in a year to express love; it is a matter of fact that the market forces are promoting Valentine’s Day to reap benefits by selling lust. We strongly believe that the motive behind projecting this day is to promote unethical male-female relationships & illegitimate Sex” Said Ziyaul Islam, Joint Secretary - SIO Mumbai.
“We should cherish and celebrate all kinds of love that the human heart is capable to feel. This includes loving one's family, loving one's friends, loving one's neighbors, loving orphans and the poor, loving animals, loving nature and environments, loving one's parents and one's children, etc. What we see happening on the Valentine’s Day is exactly the opposite. We should question our acts and not copy others” Said Afshan, an Student of Abdulla Patel High School.
Apart from demonstration at M.S.College and Kalseker College SIO Mumbra also created awareness against celebrating valentine day by various tools like Signature campaign, board writing, students meeting & gathering at various location of Mumbra .This was a weeklong campaign organized by SIO Mumbra.
“SIO demands that students should behave as a responsible citizen of INDIA and realize what they can contribute to the society. Students should realize the real motive of Valentine’s Day and not fall prey to this culture of nudity & Vulgarity and not be self centric alienating themselves from the society rather they should be caring for all and play their part in reconstruction of the society. We should spent some time with poor and needy and spend the same amount, which is going into expensive gifts and cards or on outing somewhere, on them”, concluded Malik Abdus Salam (Zonal Advisory Council Member of SIO Maharashtra South).
During this Protest one of the on duty Policeman inquired about the ongoing activity and said this is a vary good activity being carried out by the Students and Youths. This kind of activity should be carried out in the society.
