Let’s be a Valentine to the society: SIO

Let’s be a Valentine to the society: SIO

By TwoCircles.net news desk,
New Delhi: The Mumbai unit of the Students Islamic Organisation of India will celebrate Valentine's Day with a difference in college campuses and other places in Mumbai on February 14, 2009.
“Today Valentine's Day promotes unethical male-female relations. The celebration of Valentine's Day is nothing, but giving open license to the youth to indulge in immoral acts. SIO opposes such behaviour strongly and believe that such activities erode moral and family values,” says the organization.

“SIO (Mumbai) aims to convey the message of universal brotherhood on this Valentine's Day. The youth group wants “every Indian to be a Valentine to the 30% Indians who live below poverty line, to the 2 Million Children who die of hunger every year, to our farmers who are reeling under debt and to women who are burnt for dowry. Rather than making an individual happy let us make everyone happy,” says the group. SIO is an ideological organisation working to prepare students and youth for reconstruction of the society under divine guidance.
The group is of the view that market forces are promoting Valentine's Day to reap benefits. “We are against such western invasion of our society as it affects family bonds and undermines India's culture. We aim to recognize this as an occasion that brings people closer to one another, and add spice to their lives. We are against blindly imitating the West", says President of SIO Mumbai Shaikh Javed in a statement.
SIO-Mumbai has appealed to people to condemn practices that are capable of dissuading people from the true meanings of love and altruism to the extent that the celebration is reduced to a moral decline.
The group will take out a silent protest on Bandra Railway station at 4.00.p.m. tomorrow.
